Leslie Alexander, Angela Harris andTaylor James - Truth Be Told Tour

Last night, as expected, was a delightful breath of fresh air. The room was bursting with excitement from fans, friends and family of three talented women who came together for a musical project that brought both giggles and tears, and for sure tons of fun! Leslie Alexander, Angela Harris andTaylor James, long time friends, made it look so effortless, by sharing memories that were sometimes both hard and funny all at the same time. Supported by John Ellis and Eric Reed, this 5 piece masterpiece had the house in tears of laughter more than a few times, and we all left with I think a fresher outlook on life and love. Thanks ladies for a lovely evening at your Vancouver debut. You have left us wanting to hear more....and that’s a good thing ❤️ Thank you Michael and your staff for taking great care of all of us (my first Heatley experience and definitely not my last!

Monkey Junk!

So, Monkey Junk. I’ll make the time to add yet another favourite band to my already incredible list. Yes I bought the cd, and yes the boys each took a moment to chat with each fan getting an autograph...

They enjoyed laughing and smiling and thanking each of us, and now they can go rest up after their ten year anniversary tour.

They love White Rock and Vancouver, and they’ll be back, and we’ll buy tickets and we’ll love them again and more.

Thanks to The Blue Frog Studios for giving us this gift, this perfect little venue of heaven where we can go and just enjoy. We had a wonderful night!

Happy 1st Anniversary to Donegal's Sunday Blues Jam

Steve Kozak will be the featured special guest for Donegal's 1st Year Anniversary Jam this Sunday May 27th at Donegal's Pub in Surrey.  Steve is a returning guest, and his last visit was a blast with his Award Winning West Coast Blues sound !  Please join hosts Marko Ibarra, Corey Lavigne and Trevor Newman this Sunday 5-9pm  Thanks to Daniel Cook for his strong support of this weekly event. It ROCKS !!

'6th Album of new music is in the works' says Arsen Shomakhov

We can all get on board a good fundraiser, right?  Supporting fundraisers is a feel-good thing, sometimes attending is enough, because normally the door charge goes straight to the cause.  If you buy a raffle ticket or two, you may win a wonderful prize as well.

Some fundraisers are for projects like funding a new venture, perhaps a new album is in the works and the costs can be too enormous to tackle alone.

You  are invited to an event today where you can help a well-known and amazingly talented musician develop and produce his 6th album.   You can come and enjoy two hours of amazing music, dancing, food and bevvies, you can buy a chance to win 50/50 cash, or perhaps one of the sweet door prizes....no matter what, it will be a memorable night for everyone.  The Arsen Shomakhov Trio plays every Friday 7-9pm at The Fairview Pub on Broadway, and they continue to gain momentum and popularity by their consistently amazing performances.

Those of us who are already HUGE FANS will be there to show our support and appreciation for all the music we have enjoyed so far.  Having a 6th album coming up to purchase is exciting, and I look forward to adding it to my collection.

Thanks for all the prize donations so far !! If you have any others to donate to the prize collection for that night, please bring them with you tonight.

Thank you for supporting LIVE MUSIC, and the fundraisers that are part of our community.  One day it might be you that needs assistance.... just sayin.

Live Music at the Sylvia Hotel

What’s that old cliché? ‘You don’t know what you don’t know’ .....

True that! Sharing details about LIVE MUSIC venues and shows is what we do....

The Sylvia Hotel is always such a treat to visit, especially when you are with great friends and listening to such talented performers. It’s a bit pricier than some of our regular haunts, but I truly believe that you get what you pay for, and if you want to be spoiled a little, The Sylvia offers a perfect location with a view and sunset that is priceless.

It offers great food, a lovely, easy location, attentive staff and my favourite part – amazing live music Sundays 7-9pm, Wednesdays,8-10pm and Thursdays
8-10pm.

It’s always a pleasure to sit and enjoy spectacular live music performed at a local venue, and on Wed April 4th, we were pampered by one of our favourites,
Jim Foster. He outdid himself again by singing and playing the acoustic guitar to many of his hits, including several self-written songs.

THANK YOU to the Sylvia Hotel for supporting live music in Vancouver. We have included the April music schedule, where you will see so much talent you won’t be able to resist.

Take special note of Apr 15 when
Bobby Bacchus will croon you crazy, then Apr 25 when Harris&DeBray (Leslie Harris and Curtis DeBray)  will strut their R&B for you, and Apr 29th when
The Blue Velvet Duo (of L.J. Mounteney and Ron Thompson) will do some jazzy swing for you to enjoy.

The month is full of great music at the Sylvia, check this venue’s iconic ambience out for yourself, I’m pretty sure you will be back again.

Here's a little ditty our Marianne wrote about 'Blues for Christmas 2017'

In a few hours, it will be dawn and I'm still not sleepy, being all wired up from dancing last night at the Commodore  Ballroom, where the 32nd Annual "Blues For Christmas" was held.

The Ballroom shook, rattled, and rolled all evening from 6:30 pm until well after midnight.  I occupied my favourite spot at the centre front edge of the stage.  From this vantage point, I am mesmerized watching skilled fingers fly over keyboards and hearing guitars ring, voices sing, and drums beat wild rhythms.  There was music for everyone's taste:  R&B, Soul, Motown, Gospel, Funk, Blues, Boogie-Woogie, Zydeco, Reggae, Rock an' Roll, and more!

Imagine over 60 entertainers going on stage one group at a time, playing and singing their hearts out to more than 700 guests for nearly 7 hours!  The seemingly impossible feat was made possible by the energy, creativity and dedication of Dalannah and Paul who made this 'Grand Finale' a tremendous success. This immense production flowed seamlessly and smoothly like those velvet stage curtains in front of me.

Congratulations and many thanks to you and your assistants, volunteers, staff, and performers. It was sheer bliss to listen to the impeccable instrumentation blending in perfect pitch and harmony with the crystalline voices.  I had so much fun boogying to those beautiful musical sounds that i didn't take a single break for fear of missing one song.  By the end of the night I wanted to go on for another 24 hours.  When I arrived home, my pedometer read 30,672 steps, equaling 21.7 km - I danced half a marathon at this fabulous party!  During the celebration that evening, I noticed the entertainers were relaxed and were having a good time too.  They were smiling, laughing and chatting with one another between sets.  It was like a reunion for some of those who had not seen each other for decades, but had played in the same band years previous.  it gave me double the pleasure to see them reunited. As i looked behind, I saw another heartwarming sight:  my dozens of friends in addition to hundreds of fans, all with smiling faces, enjoying every moment.

The '2017 Blues for Christmas' was the best one of all the 32 shows that I attended.  Those pleasant memories will be indelibly engraved on my mind for many years to come.

I owe my good health, liveliness, and fitness to you hundreds of musicians and singers who fill my life with such a great joy of dancing.  The conditioning and exercising proved to be most beneficial, and so dancing became my favourite pastime, a great hobby, and my one and only addiction.

Your music inspired me to be more creative and to relax, smile, and laugh more.  You attracted me to the dance floor like a magnet, the first time being in 1973 at the Town Pump.  My future husband and I took our first couple of dance steps and from then on we couldn't sit down.  We followed you to the Savoy, the Spinning Wheel, Puccini's, and so many other venues. 45 years later, I remain your faithful follower and I won't stop dancing until you stop playing and singing.  The dance floor is my gym and you are my motivational music gurus who help me do the aerobics with my fun and crazy moves ever so effortlessly.

With the most heart-felt gratitude and sincerest Thanks, Merci, Danke Schoin, Gracias, Abrigada, Grazie, Kamsamneda,

Arigato,
